Crisis communication — template messages
Short, clear, pre-written messages save precious time. To be approved by the authority before release.
Alert message
“[Hazard] alert in [area]. Take shelter. Listen to [radio]. Only phone in an emergency.”
Shelter-in-place
“Stay indoors. Close doors and windows, turn off ventilation. Do not collect children from school.”
Evacuation
“Evacuate [area] to [meeting point]. Take papers, medicines and warm clothing. Follow the indicated route.”
All clear
“[Hazard] alert over. You may resume normal activity. Report damage to [contact].”
💡An effective message = one hazard, one instruction, one source. Prepare them in calm times and get them approved before the crisis.
